For another fun Hot Wheels Hobby, I have started customizing some cars. It takes a lot of practice, so I started out with inexpensive or used Hot Wheels. After many tries, I am starting to get the hang of it. Here are the steps I have used to accomplish this new discovered hobby.
BEFORE CUSTOMIZATION
Swapping out your Hot Wheels car is a great way of customizing. After removing the original taps, pry open the body. Simply exchange the old wheels with the new. On this example, I used RealRiders with bronze rims. To me, these bronze rims not only enhances the car's looks, it also mimics the color of peanut butter. (Reese's is favorite candy bar.)
Depending on the material of the Hot Wheels car, it my require installing new rivets. Since this example has an all metal body, it required new rivet installation. (See above photo.) Most Hot Wheels will snap in place, not requiring this extra step..
How To Install New Rivets
1. Drill a pilot hole. 1/16" for a 1/72 tap or 5/64" for a 2-56 tap.
2. Put cutting fluid oil on the tip of the tap and in the pilot hole.
3. Slowly rotate the tap into the pilot hole, using a T-Handle.
